New York
fashion week’s runway looks for men never disappoints. Yesterday I shared some
of my favourite designs showcased by Camo, Craft Atlantic and Perry Ellis. The
one thing that I really loved about the designs was the different shades of
blue that was used and incorporating the blues by using different textiles and
textures. Graphic prints were seen as predicted in the trend forecast, also
with a 1950’s inspired look as seen in some of the designs featured by Craft
Atlantic. These youthful looks were mostly effortless when it came to
accessories, leaving the main focus on the clothing itself. The clean lines of
Camo’s designs made this a look that most guys can pull off. The Craft Atlantic
designs showcased some of the fine graphic prints in their shorts where the
Perry Ellis designs used flowier prints in the tops.
I went
through all the looks of each of the designers’ and decided to use these three
as inspiration for the outfit I styled. Something
that you should keep in mind when looking at runway looks and making them your
own is to only use certain elements of the looks. None of these looks can be
copied exactly the same – and sometimes a runway look should simply stay a
runway look. I liked the white buttoned up white shirt from Camo and the sneakers
the model wore. The printed short from Craft Atlantic served as yet another
inspiration to me and when it comes to the Perry Ellis look I took some
inspiration from the printed knitwear jersey.

When
putting together an outfit it is important to keep in mind that you can be a
bit playful when it comes to different shades of one colour. With the colour of
the inspirational looks being blue, I decided to keep this look in the blue-hue
family. I started this look off with a simple white buttoned up white shirt and
then decided to pair it up with the Nevada shorts in a navy blue with the Smith
& Jones Oaks pull over jersey in a navy and grey/blue colour. As seen in
the inspirational looks, it is essential to keep it simple therefor I only
added the white Reebok grade a sneakers.
When you
keep in mind that runway looks only serve you with elements that you can use to
style a look – you will always get it right!
